MORE TRAILS

Cycling

La Domaine is a good starting point for your cycling trips, whether it is on the road, or in the rough.

Routes

There are several routes to do, starting from the Domaine. Three trailblazed routes can be started from the here as well. Just follow the signs.

Cols

There are a few cols to master nearby. For instance the col the Noyer, in the Dévoluy, the col Carabès to the Drôme or just the col the Vernier for an early morning training.

The Classics

The classic cols are a bit further away, but know that that there are days in the summer, when cyclers have exclusive access.

Swimming

Le Petit Buëch

Close to Veynes runs the the river Le Petit Buëch, which has cobble stone beaches and has many spots to lie in the sun or to play. The fast running river is great to let oneself flow on a boat and many dams have been built.

Plan d'Eau d'Iscles - Veynes

Also near Veynes is the Plan d'Eau d'Iscles: a large lake with deep water, surrounded by mountains. There are lawns to lieand play with trees for the necessary shadow, water boat rental and a restaurant with a terrace. Swim to the island in the middle! The lake is freely accessible.

The water gradually gains some depth, so it very suitable for small children.

Plan d'Eau de la Germanette - Serres

Near Serres a swim lake had been created, which has the atmosphere of an outdoor swimming pool. It has large lawns around, a restaurant and a great view on the mountains. Access requires a small fee.

Lac Serre Ponçon

Lac Serre Ponçon is one of the largest dam lake of France, with clear turquoise water en many bays and beaches to swim and play. You can surf, sail and make boat trips. There is a tourist boat which makes a tour of the lake and a museum of building of the dam. The lake is at 45 minutes from the Domaine.

Villages

Veynes

We do all our shopping in this town, with three supermarkets. Have a stroll through the old part of the town and visit the rail museum.

Serres

Very nicely built against the rock face, the town has some nice streets with much to see.

The market is on saturday morning and there are two nice restaurants.

Laragne

A center to do your shopping. Nice to have a walk around. Be sure to visit the town on a thursday morning for the large market and enjoy a coffee on one of the terraces.

Orpierre

This town is a center for climbers. Have a look at their exploits on the cliff faces. Take a stroll through the few old streets and have a lunch on the terrace of one of the restaurants. In the summer there is a small market next to the church.

Local produce

Most of the local produce can be found on the markets (wednesday: Gap; thursday: Veynes, Laragne; saturday: Serres, Gap, Sisteron). And visit the local shops in Veynes and Serres.

Be sure to try out the following:

Tourtons

These are filled dough with either seet or savory. Eat them with a green salad;

Goat's cheese

There are several goat herds that produce cheese. They can be found on the markets;

Organic bread

If you want to taste real bread from wood burned ovens, there are seveal bakers. You can go to their bakerey in Savournon;

Honey

The beekeeper in Oze has his hives on our terrain. He produces mountain and lavender honey.

Nature

Fauna

Maybe a badger or deer will visit you in the evening. And if you wake early you might see swines, foxes or even wolves. Have a walk in the Dévoluy to see (and hear) the marmosets.

And keep your eyes (and ears) out for the birds and insects. Some 50 bird species have been seen around the holiday homes.

Flora

We most like the large variety of orchids that can be found on the terrain. But there is also wilde thyme, rosemary and lavender, which is really indicative of the Provence, to be found.

Only this part of the Hautes-Alpes has Lavender fields. Visit the distillery in La Faurie.
