Tracking Service

This service allows you to track the geographic position of anything that has a GPS Mobile on board. It seems to use a GSM-phone in combination with a GPS. A special client allows you to see the location of the GSM-numbers that you are tracking. The client has several other options as well.

Interesting application. I do however not get the idea that this is very open. I would like to see it as a separate web-service of the Telecom-operators. Users of a GPS-phone can then enable this web-service. Interesting to create a Geo-moblog of your travel pictures. It would lead to many more interesting services

Tracking Service

Gizmodo mentioned an interesting service created by the Aalborg zoo in Denmark. It is an advanced combination of three mobile / wireless technologies (bluetooth, wireless LAN and GSM (SMS)). In combination it offers a tracking services, with notification by SMS

Gizmodo quote:
Base stations scattered around a site detect nearby bluetooth tags worn by kids and relay their location to a central database via wireless LAN (local area network). Parents register their cell phones with the system and can get an update on their progeny’s position within 20 seconds of sending a query text message.
