CiteULike

An interesting service that allows the user to bookmarks articles found on the web. When a user sees an article on a supported site, he can add the article to his personal literature list on CiteULike. The interesting thing is that information from that article, such as title, authors, journal, abstract, etc are copied as well. CiteULike extracts that information from the web-page.

The interesting thing is that the article information is extracted (an hformat anyone?) and copied. The service is really a variant of bookmarking, but with much more added information. Yet another MicroContent type.

By the way there is tagging as well and sharing of literature. Your literature list can be exported to bibtex and endnotes format, and a RSS-feed is available.

Development @ Ning

Ning is a new service provider that offers services to other service providers. It is a provider for the providers. Ning offers a Service Development and Operations service. It offers a set of tools, such that a service provider can create a service and provision it to their customers. The development environment of Ning has a common set of functions needed far any service. For instance identification and access control functions. (there might be others, but I did not check them out yet).

Once a service has been created, it can be provisioned and hosted by the Ning service.

Rollyo

This service allows a user to create search rolls. A search roll is a set of websites created by a user, which can be searched. Users can also access search rolls of other users. It is a service which re-uses Yahoo! Search. Rollyo limites the search realm of a free search and allows users to define this realm. Unfortunately the realm is limited to the top-level of an URL.

You can think of this services as reusing the bookmarks you gathered in a folder around certain subject. Rollyo allows you to search the web-sites in your bookmark folder.
