Tagging MicroContent

With the advance del.icio.us tagging bookmarks seems to have gained popularity. Also much weblog software has the possibility to categorise a weblog entry. And often even multiple categorisations are possible. Sometimes these categorisation scheme can be hierarchical in nature. There really seems to be a need, although the ENT-spec says that the topic metadata field in RSS has not been used much. Probably it was a question of time.

Anyway I get the impression that any piece of Microcontent can use a tag-field, such as has been used by del.icio.us. It might and must be an optional item. The categories used by many can be copied in this field.

I had a look at ENT, but it seems much to complex. Users just want throw some words in a tag-field an not worry about namespaces, domains, clouds or whatever. And then they only do it if it serves some purpose such as within del.icio.us.
