OPML directory

TechCrunch reports that they have seen the light with Dave Winer’s OPML Editor. They say they get it. I am not I sure I do. It seems that anyone can add the box with the TechCrunch categories directory to his page. That directory is maintained by TechCrunch using the OPML Editor. And that makes it a new kind of repurposing and and thus also another kind of MicroContent. I wonder if one needs the OPML editor to do this. Or can I publish an OPML-file with my directory and have it republished by others? I guess this makes OPML a general repurposing format.
