The final version of MarsEdit was released. This application allows a user to manage and create weblog-items. I did not try the application yet, as I already use my own client (pMpost). And I prefer the latter as it is dedicated to pMachine. But I will have a second look at MarsEdit, especially because it is a MicroContent client as well.
I am a bit disappointed that Brent Simmons felt the need to separate viewing from editing into two different applications. From a theoretical point I do not see the need. Most other MicroContent clients manage to marry these functionality’s into a single application. He argues that this solution gives two better applications.
One of the biggest reasons for this split was the lack of commonality between weblog-systems. Everyone does it differently (and that is why I use a different client). There is no standard. And the standard fields as used in RSS for a weblog item is not enough. A weblog-system provides much more and publishing a weblog-item is more than creating a RSS-file or an XML-file.
And still something does not feel well. Maybe publishing weblogs got to be to complex. And we have to go back to a more simple solution.
