Local confusion
In attempt to catch up with the ideas of Thomas Vanderwal, I had a look at his latest
post on the Local InfoCloud. It only confused me. The matter is complex and all things hang together in some way. He describes many attributes, but I have no idea whether this complete in someway. I miss a model behind it.
Another way to attack this problem is to introduce several viewpoints. A viewpoint gives a more limited view on the problem and exposes only one aspect. I recognised the following viewpoints:
- Human Viewpoint - this viewpoint is about the humans in it all. It is about the model that is in the heads of users. This model reflects how the user sees the world, how he understands it and is a record of all his experiences with it. It should be clear that this model will never be complete nor correct. This model will also take parts of the other models, as the user understands it;
- Information Viewpoint - this viewpoint looks only at the information and how it hangs together. It is a model of the web with it's macro- and MicroContent. This is a very dynamic thing as the web is changed daily through new content and new links;
- Technical Viewpoint - this viewpoint describes the link with real life. It is about disks, databases, servers, pc's. But also about shops, physical locations and people in the world;
- Process Viewpoint - this viewpoint is about all the processes, services, functions and applications that are available. These processes allow users to make changes, additions, deletions, traversing the web, etc;
Using these models I can pretty well map the ideas of Thomas Vanderwals post.
