DVD Sphere

I had a look at this application for managing your DVD collection created by SphereCorner. This application introduces the concept of a Box. A Box contains multiple DVD’s. This is a great idea. In fact every DVD should have a box-concept. I find this implementation not generic enough, but on the hand I did not see this concept yet in another application. Each Item can have a very rich set of Fields.

The application is a bit non-standard MacOSX. The contents of the toolbar can not be customised and the use of the Menu is non-standard. Also the interface differs from other MicroContent Clients.

The application did not implement the link with online services very well. There is no parser for IMDB. And for Amazon one has to acquire one’s own Amazon Developer Token. But this is more a problem of Amazon and IMDB than the application itself. The right WebServices interfaces interfaces are still not there (IMDB) or the conditions for using such interfaces are not right yet (Amazon). This seems to be the start of the art at the moment. The Online Services are still not grown-up yet.
