I have been playing with CoverFlow the last week. I downloaded all the necessary covers. Yesterday I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and to my amazement I saw something called CoverFlow with the same functionality. Was a copycat busy here? Before writing this post I checked the coverflow site and noticed that Apple bought his technology. That is great to hear. Unfortunately he took down all the CoverFlow stuff on his site. The application also no longer works with iTunes 7. Check out the video to see the original CoverFlow version. And check the Apple website for the newest version.
Look at CoverFlow as an other way to look through your MicroContent Items. At least those Items that have an associated image. I think it is a great way for browsing recipes, covers (DVD’s, Videocasts, Albums), Pictures, etc. It is a good reason to start adding images to your MicroContent.
So now I am going to play with the iTunes version. See what they implemented.
Update: I have mixed feelings about the iTunes version of CoverFlow. iTunes is not good in finding Album Art. It finds a lot less than CoverFlow. I miss the visualiser / full screen mode of CoverFlow. From time to time I want to see what is playing. I moved CoverFlow in front to see that. A visualiser in the background or as desktop would help here. And it does not work on shared Lists;
By the way, where is the praise to Apple this time. People always complain that Apple copies work of others and that they are not friendly to developers. So now they did the right thing and bought the technology from a third party. I thinks some kudo's to Apple is now in place.
