Posts are atomic entries

I still had this post from Anil Dash in my to-read box. He talks about the fact that posts are the atomic elements of a weblog. I always accepted that fact or has that been a discussion somewhere?

And he also talks about the presentation order of a weblog. Most natural is a reverse chronological order. But some commenters want also other possibilities. I guess it all depends what you want to do. And it depends on the Microcontent type. If we enlarge the weblog definition to be a collection of Microcontent items, then any order might be useful whether it is timebased, alphabetical, etc. One could also chose a field of the Microcontent item, such as the rating when looking at reviews. I think we should take a broader look at it.

Note also that the weblog is the container for Microcontent. And it is up to the publisher to decide what he finds the best ordering method. But in the in the end it is about the Microcontent items, the post, the review, the bookmark, etc.

By the way I’ll come back to categories, which are also discussed in this article.
