MicroContent Client Importance

One of the principle ideas of DataLibre is owning your data. For me this implies the importance of a MicroContent client. But I have to dissect this jump a bit further.

In principe owning your data means that you are free to do with it what you want (full control). This implies for instance that writing a review on Amazon is not an option, as you can no longer change or delete that review. The review got out of your control. Indeed most service providers allow you to leave comments, write a review, enter a profile, but do now allow you to change or delete the information you put in. And there are only a very few providers that provide a good export-option such as an XML-file.

It seems that the best option is to go with your own hosting provider and your own software if you want to publish something. The only worry you are then left with is whether the hosting provider goes down. So it is important to make backups regularly. And you should chose software that allows you to make easy backups. But with a hosting provider you are in full-control.

Another option is to store all your data locally, but then you are also have to make backups regularly. The MicroContent Client will only help with the easy management of your MicroContent.
