Edgeio and the distributed world

I saw the Jeff Jarvis' post on Edgeio. He seems rather enthusiastic about Edgeio. I did not see it yet, but I had some thoughts.

I wonder what makes Edgeio different from Technorati. Just have a look at the posts tagged with listing and vacation. Not very useful. So Edgeio has to overcome the habit of people to tag with the wrong tags and get people to tag with the right keywords. Makes a difficult proposal. I agree however on the distributed future. By the way, the output of Technorati is very generic. A more listing-like interface would already help a lot.

The other thing is the tagging standard that Edgeio edges to. I am not sure we want that. The nice thing of tags is the freedom. Maybe Edgeio should be more in the business of translating free tags to a standard tag-set.

Standardising tags might be a good step towards MicroContent and a distributed world.
