Jon Udell has a post about canonical URL’s. When adding a link in a post, he wants you to link to the original post and not just the a post where you saw the news. And he would like to have this automated. Personally I do not mind, but the idea of automation is interesting.
And this is where we can introduce a new Microcontent type: the webpost review (or maybe OpenComment?). If you want to reference someone else’s post, enter the URL of that post in a separate field. This separate field should have a unique tag, similar to the OpenReview identifier field. And when software sees this tag it could go and inspect the corresponding webpost and try to find a similar tag. This goes on recursively until the real webpost is found as this one has no referencing field. This is by the way also the reason why I think that many weblog entries are really reviews, but maybe we should call them comments to be more clearer.
All these links between weblog entries show the discussion threads.
