Google earth added three new layers to their places directory within Google Earth. They call this folder the Geographic Web. The layers added are places from WikiPedia, images from Panoramio and places from the Google Earth community.
In itself this event is not very interesting. Google Earth bundles many types of layers with locations on earth. This layer is however a little bit different as it is content (locations) generated by users. Using WikiPedia is a logic one to add. However adding locations from the Google Earth community and images from Panoramio is another thing. It does point to some sort of aggregations as any user can add somthing to Panoramio and the Google Earth community.
It however falls short from true aggregation. When does Google start to aggregate KML files and show those within Google Earth? And why just these three location aggregators? Anyway, this is good step, but just a first one.
