Danny Ayers points me to a discussion on the microformat site, where he also points to three dimensions for MicroContent: inline, embedded and linked. He sees some overlap with my (Marc Canter’s) dimensions.
He splits my definition of embedded into two separate dimensions: embedded and inline. I agree with this split.
On the other hand I tried to split his definition of linked into two separate dimensions: feed and single. I tried to formulate the difference between say OPML and RSS. One gives a fixed view on the data, whereas the other gives (often) a (time-)sliding view on the data. This is however not set in stone. It depends how the publisher uses these files. I also used the term single, in order to indicate that a MicroContent item can be alone in a single file. It does not have to be part of a list, such as in OPML or RSS. However the publisher can chose to put a single Item in RSS or OPML as well. For me examples of single items are a recipe, a puzzle, a MP3-file or an image. We find it normal that they are single and do not even expect them to be part of a feed. Or they are enclosures in a feed. But they are really just single MicroContent items.
