Appcasting

Fraser Speirs describes the practice of Appcasting. An appcast uses the enclosure feature of RSS to distribute updates of applications or even whole updates.

I see this as a great generalisation. RSS can be used to distribute any kind of content, Macro or Micro. But are applications MicroContent? I guess not, they are not small at all. So where is the MicroContent in here? If I look more closely at enclosures, then I notice that an enclosure is just a pointer to data, that one must download to view. This implies that the entire blog-item, i.e. title, description and enclosure, still can be seen as MicroContent. So let’s use enclosures to distribute single MicroContent Items as well.
