Cori Schlegel also had a look at RSSContact. He prefers to create his own contactFeed as well. He just creates a specific RSS-feed for a specific category of his blog. And he uses hcard to mark-up his contact information. He claims that this will replicate the RSSContact thing.
As I said before, the RSScontact-service is a bit more advanced. It allows for creating specific feeds for specific contacts. Say that I want Cori Schlegel to see only my business-information, but not my telephone number, I can do that with RSScontact. (cori Schlegel is aware of this issue) The other thing is of course the ease of use. It is now not very easy to create an hcard blog item, such as Cori has done.
Cori Schlegel continues to say that he only wants to have a single place where his contact information can be found. That sound like identity and that sound like a Web 2.0 problem. Cori Schlegel started already thinking about solutions. I like to add some of mine to that:
We like to publish our contact information as a feed with a vCard as enclosure. One could think of possible feeds depending on what we want to publish )our personae). Contacts can subscribe to the feed in their email application or in their Social Networking Service. A feed is based on a specific contacts blog. This blog has multiple categories, which map to our personae. The blog service or system supports in creating the contact information, the categories and the feeds. Where does this leave FOAF? I am not sure. If there are applications or service that can subscribe to my FOAF-file it will be a similar solution. I think I prefer FOAF over hCard, as it is much more richer.
