To Gap and the east you will reach the higher mountains, fortresses and the highest village of Europe: St. Véran. Gap is the capital of the Hautes-Alpes, where you can do your large shopping, have a lunch on the market next to the fountain. From there you can continue to Lac Serre Ponçon, a large artificial lace and great for some water activity. From there you continue to Embrun, a nice fortified village and on to fortress Mont Dauphin. And you can either continue to Briançon or to St Veran, with its wooden houses and terraces. It provides a totally different atmosphere than Le Domaine.
