Day trips

Domaine de Sivas is ideally situated to make day trips in all directions of the wind. In this way you can see the landscape change to the high mountain areas or the warmer wine and olive regions.

For us a day trip is a being away the whole day and being at least one hour away from le Domaine.

Direction Die

Die is a nice historic village to visit with nice streets and cafes. On the road to Die you pass the fascinating scenery at Le Claps, where you can also take a dive. If you continue further to Die you will pass a nice butterfly garden (paying), where you can see butterflies in all shapes and colours. You can return along the col de Grimone. This is a great route along the river and gorges, where there are many places to pause and play in the water. And as a souvenir buy a bottle of Clairette de Die!

Direction Nyons and the Baronnies

Nyons is famous for its olives and olive oil, which is created from a special olive variety. The are multiple pressing mills where the oil is created and where you can taste the various oils. But you are also in the wine region, Côte du Rhône. A bit more to the south are some to the famous regions, where you surely should try out some of the wines. And you will pass Vaison La Romaine where you can find some roman remains with a great amphitheatre.

Return over the Mont Ventoux and admire the cycling enthusiasts, which want to create some personal cycling history. You can also return through Buis les Baronnies, a nice historic village with vaulted corridors. Then continue to Séderon and the lavender fields and apricot plots to the Gorges de Méouge, where you can take a last dive before returning to Le Domaine.

Direction Gap

To Gap and the east you will reach the higher mountains, fortresses and the highest village of Europe: St. Véran. Gap is the capital of the Hautes-Alpes, where you can do your large shopping, have a lunch on the market next to the fountain. From there you can continue to Lac Serre Ponçon, a large artificial lace and great for some water activity. From there you continue to Embrun, a nice fortified village and on to fortress Mont Dauphin. And you can either continue to Briançon or to St Veran, with its wooden houses and terraces. It provides a totally different atmosphere than Le Domaine.

Sisteron and le Route de Temps

Sisteron lies picturesque in a curve of the river against a mountain wall. Through the narrow streets you climb to the imposing Citadel. Built on a promontory it defended the entrance to the valleys of the Alps and provides you with great views. Next to the cathedral in Sisteron you will find the Musée du Temps Perdu, where you can buy a guide for the Route de Temps. This beautiful trip leads you along various geological finds. The route is very well described with signs along the way. However the booklet offers extensive descriptions of the fossils that can be seen. Along the way you can get out of the car for walks of various length. It is a great way to discover the geological history of the Provence and the related fossils.
