The best of the Alps and Provence
From the UK
The fastest route coming from the UK is described.
- One can either cross the channel by ferry or through the tunnel [Map 1]. I have no idea which one is preferred. In anyway you land on the continent around Calais. Take there the Autoroute des Anglais (A26) in the direction of Reims (turnes into A6), Langres (turns into A31), Dijon and Nice. Do not go in the direction of Paris. The motorway continues to Dijon, where the motorway from Paris will join, and Lyon [Map 2]. From Beaune the motorway will be the A6;
- Before Lyon, just after the toll go into the direction of Chambery (the A46). This is the ring road around Lyon. At some stage you have to leave this ring rad on your right toward Chambery and Grenoble. After a while this Motorway splits into a road to Chambery and one to Grenoble (the A48), which you must take. In Grenoble just continue straight-on on the Motorway [Map 3];
- In Grenoble take the N75 in the direction of Sisteron (and Col de la Croix Haute). [Map 4] In Aspres-sur-Buëch go to your left in the direction of Veynes and Gap (D994A). At the next crossing go to your right in the directions of Serres and Sisteron (D994) [Map 5].
- In Pont-de-Chabestan go to your left (D49) over the bridge of the Buëch in direction of Chabestan. At the first possibility go to your left (D448) and again to your left at the next road (D48). After two kilometres you arrive at Domaine de Sivas. Domaine de Sivas is at your left at a blue sign. La Ferme is the first building you come across, continue to your right onto Le Poème or La Lavandole [Map 5].
- Or plan the trip yourself.
