In several articles I encountered the work a human must do in his life. In Sufism you are supposed to work on your ego. The idea is that you come lose of your ego on several levels. a similar idea can be found in Buddhism, but there it is called enlightenment (or awakening). Also in transpersonal therapy you have to work on yourself, which includes the spiritual part of yourself. The transpersonal therapy of Grof takes this a step further and outlines some specific steps to work on.
What is missing in these stories is the “why?”. In Buddhism it is a way to escape the lifecycle on earth. I assume that in Sufism it is something similar. Both of these “escape why’s”, imply that life on earth is a bad thing, that one has to escape. I can not accept this idea. There must be more to it.
Anyway, this why question, is an important part of the things we have to read on.
