Col de Cabre
This is an old sundial from 1807. It is a simple dial, but the location is great. It is cut from the rock next to the road. It has been created by the builders of that road. The motto of the dial says 4eme année Du regne de Napoleon le grand. O toi qui passe dans ses lieux, vois l’ouvrage de Ladoucette. Il me fait parler a tes yeux, tu suis la route qu’il a faite. This roughly translates to 4the year of the rule of Napoleon the Great. O, you who passes in this place, see the works of Ladoucette. It speaks to your eyes, you are the road that he has made.
The dial presents half-hour and hour-lines from 7 to 6 o’clock. I was to late to see any shadow.
The dial can be found on road from Col de Cabre to La Beaume, just before one enters the tunnel. The dial is some 20 meters above the road on the left side.
