I found this sundial in the old village of Rosans, while walking around. There is not much left of the dial. It seems however not very old, as I can discern 1981. The dial was adorned with a poem of Jean Giono, the famous writer of the Provence, who was often in the Hautes-Alpes. I tried to track down the citation on Internet, but I was not succesful.
A few hourlines of the sundial remain and go from IX to IV o’clock. This shows a lack of sunshine in the early and late hours. The gnomon is no longer present.
The dial is in the old part of Rosans, Hautes-Alpes, France. I found it by accident, so I did not notice well where it was. Go to the central tower of the village and walk to the east in the direction of the Mairie. It is to be found on a small square.
I saw this dial on 10 july on a sundial-trip.

A vertical sundial created of two squares, one rotated by 45 degrees. The dial is surrounded by 10 signs from the zodiac, intermingled with decorated figures. Two signs, acquarius and pisces, can be found in the center of dial. The reason is not known to me. The motto of the dial is Plus est en toi, i.e. more is in you. On the dial is also a mark, which is presumably the creator.
The dial shows Local Apparent Time. The dial shows hourlines from 6 am to 5.30 pm and also the half hourlines. And has a M (Midi?) for 12 o’clock. Judging from the hourlines the dialface is a bit oriented to the east.
The dial can be found in Rosans in the eastern parts of the Hautes-Alpes, France. The dial is situated aboved the entrance door of the mairie in the old village. To ge there just follow the signs.
I took the pictures on 14 july 2004.
