Applications that you have to stay away from. Mostly they are very MacOSX unlike and I do not want to use them out of principle.

Cookware Deluxe
I saw this recipe application passing by. I must admit that I bought the program in the OS-9 days. Today I had a second look. I do not like it at all. It has nothing to do with all features of MacOS-X. The menu is non-standard. The interface looks like OS-9. By now this kind of software will be on my No Way list. I refuse to use it.
I did see that the Services-menu was supported, which was a happy surprise.

Limewire
I was looking for a MP3-file. I could not locate it on the web, so time to turn to P2P. I will try this client to find it. I am a bit wary that I like it, as it is not a true OS-X app.

Simple CSS
I am looking for an application that can support my web-development work. This application promices to easily edit my CSS-files. It turns out to be a not very OS-X conformant app. So I have rejected it right away. I do not want to use such applications.

Gimp
I just read that Gimp is now also available on OS-X. That is under X-Windows. Unfortunately I decided that I do not like such ports, so I guess I have to wait until a real ported version comes.

Open Office
Vandaag heb ik OpenOffice gedownload. Dat was al een prestatie op zich. Het bestand was een 80MB en het duurt zeker drie uur voordat ik het binnen had. OpenOffice draait onder X11. Dit had ik al geinstalleerd bij mijn update. Installatie was niet eenvoudig. Ik kon de aanwijzingen niet snel vinden en het duurde even voordat ik er achter was dat ik echt onder root moest installeren en niet een ander account met administratieve rechten kon gebruiken. Installatie verliep daarna goed.
Starten van de applicatie leek goed te gaan. Helaas on ik alleen starten van de command-line. Echter het inlezen van bestaande .doc-documenten lukte niet. En bij een poging tot conversie crashte het conversie-programma.
Kortom walging ten top. Ik weet weer wat ik tegen unix had e.d (en deels tegen Open Source). Ik wacht wel op een native MacOS-X-versie. Maar wat nu als alternatief voor Word en Excel?
