In this book a set of experiments is presented with mediums that can contact the afterlife. The author has defined a scientific protocol to execute these experiments. This protocol guards against possible fraud. The results are very interesting and show that it is possible to contact persons in the afterlife through mediums.

This books gives an interesting twist to the inspector Wallander series. His daughter Linda will start working at the same police station. In the book we follow the work of Wallander seen from his daughter eyes. But she gets involved in the procedings herself as well, when a friend of hers gets involved. She is under threat as well and Wallander hs to save her, when a group of religious fanatics threat to blow up several cathedrals.

This book gives an overview of the scientific research into psi. As this is a contested subject information is given on the scientific methods and the criticisms of critics are analysed. The book is very interesting and clearly show that psi can be proven te exist. How to explain psi in terms of theory is however another matter. But that is where the psi researchers ar now moving into.

Another enjoyable book in the Stephanie Plum series. A normal request into a lost family member turns into a strange quest for the truth and the truth is more complex than expected. Also her love life takes an interesting turn. And naturally the usual array of weirdo’s pass by and strange setbacks for Stephanie happen.

War of the Worlds

A classic book by H.G. Wells, so I had to see this DVD. I have good memories for this story, mainly because I was introduced to it through a radio paly many years ago. And naturally I read the book. Fortunately that was all many years ago. I have the impression that Steven Spielberg took many artistic freedom choices.

It was an enjoyable movie nevertheless.

I looked with Alwin at this movie. It was quite amusing, although not great. It is about some animals from the Central Park Zoo that want to discover the wild. And thus they discover the island of Madagascar.

Le Monde de Narnia

Went to see this movie in Veynes. It was quite nice, although it naturally did not have the depth of a Lord of the Rings. The monsters made me think of that movie. Nevertheless I enjoyed myself pretty well. The movie had a continuous fast tempo, so I had no chance to fall asleep.

The eight installment of The Sword of Truth series. In this one Lord rahl learns another Wizard’s rule. He discovers another part of the old world and fights again against emperor Jagang. The value system of the new race he discovers is quite interesting. The book gave me a post sep 9, 2001 feeling. It presents a lot of ideas of good versus evil and the action that can be taken.

Stephanie Plum, the bounty hunter, goes after another bail jumper. It turns out to be a difficult case and mixes her research with that of het police friend, Joe Morelli. The usual array of weird people pass by, which makes the book a very interesting read. I enjoyed it again a lot. Finished the book to quickly.

The book centers on a police inspector working en living in Edinburgh. The police inspector is haunted by his past. And yet another inspector with a troublesome private life. It takes a while before he acknowledges it. The book is a bit slow to start.

Naked in Baghdad

This book is an amazing account of a very brave NPR Reporter, Anne Garrels, of the war in Iraq. She stayed in a hotel in Baghdad during the war and braved the Iraq government. She tried to understand the Iraqis and their suppressed feelings. This gives a very interesting view on the events. It is a pity that I missed her NPR recordings.

This book bundles the first three novels. It was quite a different read than we were used to. We normally read only police detectives. But it was refreshingly different and fun. It is about a woman becoming a bounty hunter, which has difficulties doing her job.

This is a new book in the Shannara series. In fact it is even a new sub-serie. A new plot has been created against the Shannara backdrop. It is quite intriguing again and I read the book quickly again. However there is a lingering feeling that I have read it already. I get the impression that there is not much new.

I went to see this movie in Veynes. We quite liked it. It is like a fairy tale and the casting was a bit caricatured. i am not sure about Willy Wonka. After reading the book I imagined someone older. The Oompa Loompas were nice but not as strange as I had in my head.

I liked this book a lot, especially because the revelations are on the last pages. A policeman starts helping a murder inquiry in the province and encounters very strange murders. In some other part of the country strange things happen and the inquiries intertwine in an intriguing way.
